3 Friendship Tools for [STUDENT NAME GOES HERE] This Month ๐Ÿ’™

Hey Reader!

February is here, and with Valentine's Day, Galentine's, and mid-winter social events, we're talking about friendships a TON this month โค๏ธ

If [STUDENT_NAME GOES HERE] is navigating friend drama, feeling left out, or struggling to make new connections, we've found 3 really specific tools you can use this month to supplement our coaching ๐Ÿ˜

(also - quick reminder to book a parent call with Coach [COACH_NAME GOES HERE] if you haven't already โœจ You can do so here: https://unstoppableucoaching.com )

Onto the tools!!

1. The Reframe Question (When They Feel Left Out)

The moment [STUDENT_NAME GOES HERE] sees that Instagram story or hears about plans they weren't invited to, resist saying "It's not a big deal." That dismisses real pain. Not helpful.

Instead, validate first: "I know that stings. I'd feel left out too."

Then gently reframe: "Who are the people who do include you consistently?" This shifts focus from one missed invite to the friendships that are actually working ๐Ÿซถ

2. Low-Pressure Conversation Starters (For Making New Friends)

If [STUDENT_NAME GOES HERE] wants to make friends but doesn't know how to start, send them this post of mine that has helped a ton of kids start conversations and shift their mindset:

3. The Safety Check (For Identifying Real Friends)

If you sense a friendship is one-sided, don't tell them what to do. Instead, coach with questions:

  • "Do you feel like yourself around them?"
  • "Do they give you energy or take it away?"
  • "Do they include you naturally, or do you feel like you're always proving your worth?"

Help them recognize what real friendship feels like! Safe, balanced, low drama, and fun โค๏ธ

Reader, friendships will always be complex.

We can't protect kid(s) from every hurt. But we can teach them to navigate with resilience and self-awareness!

That's something we're working on with tons of kids these next few months! Again, if you haven't scheduled your monthly parent call, please do so here: https://unstoppableucoaching.com โ€‹

Rooting for you!!

I recently came across a letter written by a school principal to his students' parents. I thought it was worth sharing so I reposted it on Instagram ๐Ÿ’™ The backlash was.. unexpected ๐Ÿ˜… People got caught up on the grammar. On whether kids were being given an excuse to slack. On what the principal "really meant." And I get it... parents are wired to protect their kids. But while everyone was arguing in the comments, the actual message of that letter was getting completely buried. So here it is!!...

Hey! Guess what? Your kid isn't lazy. But their brain is reallllly full ๐Ÿง  And it's probably causing them to procrastinate. A lot... ๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿ˜… When teens are overstimulated - which is most of the time these days - the brain's ability to start tasks shuts down. Completely. That's why they can stand in the kitchen and somehow not see the dirty dish sitting two feet away. Why brushing their teeth requires three reminders ๐Ÿ˜† And why they look like this when they finally sit down to do homework: And it's...

This week, I get to do something I've been dreaming about for as long as I can remember ๐Ÿฅน My first ever member-guest golf tournament. With my dad!! ๐ŸŒ๏ธ If you grew up in a golf family, you know what this means. It's not just a tournament. It's a tradition. It's the kind of thing you watch older guys do for years and think.. someday. Someday was last week for me! ๐Ÿ˜ When my dad called me four or five months ago and asked if I wanted to play.. I had to take a second. Because it hit me harder than...
